Skiing In Australia 09

It’s early days yet for the 2009 Australian ski season but the early predictions are that we’re going to have a bumper year this year. The official season launch isn’t until June 5th but the resorts in New South Wales and Victoria are preparing for a big year.

This could all be coming from the ski resorts themselves in an effort to draw as many ski and snowboard enthusiasts as possible in a tougher economic climate than usual.

Mt Buller has already been able to open briefly after a good dump at the end of April leaving around 30cm of snow on the ground. This was enough for the operators to open the ski lifts for the weekend and allowing skiers and snowboarders to get in some early season action.

Naturally, early season snowfall is no sure fire indicator of the kind of snow that will fall later in the winter, but at least it is a good sign that there’s already snow on the ground up there.
